Why do I need teeth cleaning?
Most people know they need their teeth cleaned to help prevent cavities but did you know it can help prevent heart disease and dementia? Dental hygienists have been trained to look for all other problems including signs of cancer as well as gum disease. Regular teeth cleaning removes tartar which contains bacteria and can help prevent gum disease along with regular brushing and flossing.
How much does it cost to get your teeth cleaned?
It cost less than $100 to have your teeth cleaned, and insurance usually covers 100% of the cost of dental cleanings. Think of it; insurance companies know teeth cleaning is so important they will cover the cost. The American Dental Association recommends annual cleanings; however, insurance companies usually covered two cleanings per year.
How often should do I get my teeth cleaned?
The American Dental Association recommends annual cleanings; however, insurance companies usually covered two cleanings per year. If you have a history of periodontal disease more frequent visits may be encouraged.
What is deep dental cleaning?
Dental deep cleaning is a nonsurgical treatment performed by dental hygienists. It is a particular procedure for treatment of gum and periodontal disease. The dental hygienist will use an instrument called a probe to measure between your teeth and gums to see if you have any “pockets.” Pockets are loose areas between the tooth and gums where bacteria can form. Normally healthy pockets are about 3 millimeters or less. When pockets are 5 mm the dental cleaning also known as scaling and route planning may be suggested.
What do dentists use to clean teeth?
The dental hygienist clean teeth using either electric or ultrasonic instruments or manual scaling tools. Once the teeth are cleaned, they are polished with Prophylaxis using a slow speed handpiece with a soft rubber cup that spins on the end.
